Biology - Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED)

Alpha Epsilon Delta is an international honor society for pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-optometry, and pre-physical therapy students.  The mission of the society is to encourage and recognize excellence in pre-medical scholarship; to stimulate an appreciation of the importance of pre-medical education; to promote communication between medical and pre-medical students and educators; to provide a forum for students with common interests; and to use its resources to benefit health organizations, charities, and the community.

Alpha Epsilon Delta sponsors medical lectures, tours to professional schools, volunteer observation programs, social events, blood drives and other service events to achieve our purpose.  We feel that contact with other pre-professional students, both scholastically and socially, is an important part of a student's preparation for professional school.

JOIN AED: Membership in AED is an honor bestowed upon a student in recognition of superior scholastic achievement and affords an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership, and self-education through participation in the activities of the chapter and society.  To be eligible to join AED, one must have 45 hours of credit with a grade point average of 3.2 in the sciences and 3.2 overall.  We strongly encourage students who have not yet met the requirements for membership to attend meetings and take advantage of what AED has to offer. To join, applications are available in the Biology main office, or download a PRINTABLE APPLICATION FORM.  AED now offers a Junior Active Membership.  The Junior Active Membership is for pre-professional students who wish to join Alpha Epsilon Delta, but DO NOT meet the national requirement of 45 completed college hours (the AED National Office does not recognize Junior Active Members). However, Junior Active Members reap the same benefits of Active Members. Likewise, Junior Active Members are held to the same academic standards and participation requirements.  PRINTABLE JUNIOR ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM

Alpha Epsilon Delta also offers AED-Dr. Hugh Puckett Scholarships and the D. Hugh Puckett Scholarship each academic year.  This past year 4 Scholarships were awarded to WKU Students that are in the pre-professional fields of medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. They must also be a junior or senior for the academic year of receipt and have at least a 3.5 overall GPA.  An application can be downloaded here: AED-Puckett.
